I don't know about the rest of you but I was disappointed to see that the hula hoops visualization had changed in the 2.0b7. Personally I though that hula hoops was the best representation of the music out of all the visualizations on the player. Now it's just all blurry and wavy. Any chance we can get the original one back or somehow have both of them on the player so we can choose which one we like better?

Here's hoping...

For whatever it's worth, put me down also as someone who preferred the "old" Hula Hoops. I like the new one as well, but not as much, and so would really prefer to have both.

I have to agree. Actually, the same thing with Marquesas, that used to not "come at you" and I think it looked better then. At least, maybe you should be able to select the "Mode" of the vis. The select mode button does something on Flancedoor (it looks like it reseeds the randomness), maybe you should be able to select a mode on those two vis's.

I'll vote for the newer one. I didn't really care for the old one.

I too was disappointed to see that they'd got rid of the old Hula Hoops vis, although I do like the new one too. You can make Marquesas stop 'coming at you' by pressing the 'Select Mode' button on the remote. You will probably have to press it a few times though. I'd like them to add this option to Hula Hoops. Something else I've noticed about Marquesas is that it's now in Stereo. I could have sworn it was symmetrical in both axes before. Anyone?

Interesting - most people in the office think that the new hula hoops has transformed a visual that nobody used to watch into one of the best on the player. You realise the trails are seeded randomly each time the visual is selected?

I used to watch Hula Hoops quite a lot (well, still do actually). I hate to question you Rob but are you sure the Hula Hoops vis is re-seeded? I've never been able to detect any differences between sessions at all. I've also tried re-seeding with the remote and I still can't see any difference, whereas I can with the other visuals. It would be nice to have the option of having the old style Hula Hoops back.

I really haven't taken it off of hula hoops. Definitely my favorite.

When the non-technical/musical people ask me about the empeg, Hula Hoops is what I show them for a sample. I don't even remember it before the 2.0beta, but it is now definately my favorite.

Yeah, Flancedoor is the best. =) I flashed my empeg to beta7 pretty quickly so I don't even recall the old Hoops, but I find the new one pretty neat.

Marquesas (one of my favourites) were stereo from the very beginning, and I like them plain (no traces, no jumping, just somewhat smoothed mirrored spectrum plot). Hm, I have to check whether it is still in the wrong menu (among 'scopes insead of spectrum stuff)

The old Marquesas was one of my favourites too. At least you can still get this if you keep pressing the 'Select mode' button enough times.

What!? Heresy! I'll get the torches if someone else will tie him to the stake!

I think I have the best solution here... keep the "new" Hula Hoops, but rename it "Comets". Then bring back the "old" Hula Hoops as... Hula Hoops.

So do I. I prefer the new one by far. The old one was just too simple to me.

I actually like the new hola hoops - but funnelweb doesn't look as good:( it seems so busy now; half the time I'm finding myself resetting it because the screen is all lit up - and it doesn't look as smooth anymore:(

I like both versions of Hula Hoops, but definitely prefer the new Marquesas to the old.

All these difference of opinion mean the best bet could be subsections in config.ini to set up prefs and using the select mode to alter seed values for all visuals if possible.

Well, I have to say that I am again in favor of the newest version. I like latest version of funnel web more than any other present or past visual. Basically, that's always on my empeg! So, that's my vote

You can all blame Hugo for asking me to make his favourite version of Hula Hoops the only one.

I have always been reluctant to remove any visuals as I am aware that everyone has different tastes.

I can bring back the original Hula Hoops if everyone wants, and promise that from this day forth I will never remove a visual again (which means the need for a visuals UI badly needs to be revisited, see http://empeg.comms.net/php/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=wishlist&Number=57635 )

It seems like there will be others out there that like some of the old visuals better than the new ones and vice versa. It would be great if you could bring back the old ones (or do some sort of poll to see which ones should be brought back.)

Please don't remove the new Hula Hoops as I personally think it blows the old one away.
Why not have both?
We also truly do need a visuals UI..... Do you think it will make 2.0 ???

Just to be clear, I am not asking for any of the new ones to be removed!! All I am hoping for is to get a couple of the old ones back. If that means we get to have both the old and the new then that's even better!

How about this: If you like the new HulaHoops, you are allowed to use the 2.0 software. If not, you are forbidden. hehe :P

Ah, I'm glad to see you reading this thread, Toby. Please note at least two references in this thread that express a preference for Marquesas without trails.

(For those who aren't privy to the internal bug list, my one-line bug report for 1.1alpha3 was: "Yuck, trails on Marquesas? Ick, make it stop.")

We went back and forth a bunch and they eventually decided that it was OK as long as you could change it with the Select Mode button.

In practice, though, I still don't like having to turn the Marquesas trails off.
