I have tried and re-triend and walked away and tried again when I thought maybe I could catch it off guard, but I just can't seem to get track #9 from KMFDM's out-of-print Naive album to rip. It wont even play on my computer. There doesn't appear to be a deep scratch, but that must be the case....

This CD is out of print and was pulled from the shelves. The song is titled "Virus-Dub" and didn't appear on the later re-release "Naive/Hell To Go" CD.

Does anyone know where I could get this track? I'm bummed out, cuz this CD is a collector's item...

I have some CD's where certain tracks won't rip unless I deliberately slow down the ripping speed on my drive (for instance, from 24x down to 2x or something).

Have you tried doing that?

Hmm, that should be in the FAQ... (edit: it already is)

I'm ripping at 0.6 speed.... It is just a DVD drive and the settings are set for sloooooow. . But like I said, my drive even stalls while just trying to play the song...

24x ripping..... droool. I really do need to invest in a home pc.

(tried to PM this but it didn't work so here it is...)

Hey there...

Sounds good, I'll upload it to your site, failing that I can use my military email account to mail to you..I have no file size restriction there. I used a gnutella client to find the song for you after I read your post and found two files, one was ripped @ 128 and the other @ 160 so I assume that you would want the higher quality file...if I find a better one tonight, I'll send it along.

It kinda worked... cuz I got 4 copies. heehee Here was my PM reply. (as all the voyuers lean in):

wow, that's awesome.

I have no size restriction on mine either so lets try email, if that doesn' work, I'll give you a password for the ftp. 160kps or 192 would be great. - I haven't had any luck on Morpheus. I am going home now, so I won't be online till tomorrow morning.

Thanks again!

Brad

One of my Ministry albums (The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste) won't rip at any speed on my Plextor. Nor on my Yamaha burner (currently installed into my brother's machine). I was only able to rip it on a POS Toshiba (also on my brother's machine) at 1x. It's the only album with this problem I have.

Certain tracks of other albums need my Plextor slowed down to its 1x setting (which rips at 4x )

Bruno

Ah, the KMFDM sounds much better now that I've installed my sub.

Same thing happens with my Beatle's White Album. My Asus drive refuses to go past 28% of track 1. The rest , even worse. Maybe on some friend's computer... but all my friends use Musicmatch, and after using LAME with the r3mix settings I totally lost confidence on the Fraunhofer MM uses.

KMFDM is totally cool, anyway.

INteresting because I ripped that very album on my Plexstor at 20x... Must be something wierd with your copy. The only one I've had that trouble with is a Chemical Brothers album that I think got left in the car too long (so it's half-way to being a 'Best of Queen' album, I guess)...

I think for years, CD manufactures could get away with production variences because CD players have better "on the fly" error correction. Now that computers are used as often as audio only CD players, hopefully this will be less common.

The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste: I love that album! It was stolen from me back in high school, but I think I will go out and buy it again. I've been looking for it used. I remember waking up to "Theives" every morning. hehe

Once I'm done with the logo requests I;'ve been getting through PM, I will make KMFDM, NIN and Skinny Puppy logos (already have a Front242 one on the site).

No, it's going to start being more common, so you can't rip the CD into MP3s. That's how most of the copy(RIAA profit) protection works, buy screwing up the CD in a way that a computer won't read it properly, but a cheap audio CD player will read it because it'll ignore the crap, and play the music.

I doubt it matters really, it won't be long before someone has a way around it. If a "normal" CD player can play it, then somehting like a Plextor with the right software will definitely do it, at least after the software has been written.

Besides, nothing's safe - I can connect my TV, CD player, record player, whatever into my receiver, and then those outputs to my PC's soundcard "line in". Next I fire up a program called "Total Recorder", and then play whatever it is I want to grab. Total Recorder makes a .wav file of ANY sounds coming into, through, or out of the PC, which can next be transformed via a range of programs into an MP3, .cda, whatever you want.

I spent a weekend about two years ago "burning" my records (yeah, vinyl) onto CDR's, very interesting hearing pops and static come out of the CD player on the way to work the next morning.

Now, if I can do this, someone smarter than me can figure out a way around this CD protection nonsense. I'm pretty sure that using this method I could do it right now, if I was actually interested in paying for that soundtrack. Someone mail me one and we'll find out!

Correct. My post on the subject, from nearly two years ago, still stands. Nothing I said there has changed, it is all still true.

Speaking of that, my old Mitsumi CR-4801TE CD-R drive has two pins at the back labeled 'Digial audio out' or something to that effect. Does anybody know what's that (is it the same thing as digital out on 'normal' CDDA players)?

http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/eac9.html

(Highlights)

Secondary C2 extraction mode (may work better for some kind of erraneous CDs and for some but not every drive. Even if it may be misused for copy protected CDs, using this mode on protected CDs is only allowed when legal in your country). This mode is up to now very basic, and will be improved in upcoming versions.

Manual detection of TOC, usefull if a CD is defective and displays wrong track positions or data tracks instead of audio, EAC will try to detect the CD structure by analysis. For this, your drive must support Gap Detection mode B.

(PS - I miss HTML:( )
