I could have my HSX-109 or my RioCar (or whatever) streaming my collection to me while I mow the lawn. .... sure it wouldn't have great range, but it would cover my house (or within 300 feet of whereever I parked)... If it was cheap, this would be awesome. Maybe instead of accepting (or in addition to)memory cards, it would also accept CardBus cards so you could pop in your 802.11b or Bluetooth card at home and a NIC card while at work and tap into the lan... browseing content and songs...

Just thinking out loud.

Hmm. If it ran the Rio Receiver firmware, that would totally rock. I know I would like one.

It would be hard to market, though. Most people would want it to go farther than their yard. They'd want it to be broadband internet through a wide-area service, not 802.11.

As it stands right now, the HSX-109 will squirt tunes into a portable for you before you head out to mow the lawn. Either that or what you really want is an Ipod or a Rio Riot.

Or the Rio - LawnMower with built-in noise cancelling headphones (a must for suburbian life). hehe

Your product right now is called a PDA (PocketPC variety). I don't know of anything down the pipe that would have this functionality and be music-only.

I think that the best use for 802.11b wireless would be the ability to sync and manage the Empeg while it was in your car in the garage. Granted, if you live in an apartment complex and don't have a garage, you are most likely not leaving the thing in your car, but I would like to be able to leave it in my car at home and manage it remotely...that I would pay for...maybe

People have already done this. Just install a ap in your car and rig up a connector on the docking cage.

Any details on this?

I'd like a daemon to nightly send new mp3s from my PC to the rio in the garage.

I'd like the ap to only power up when the car is OFF, and the Rio is in...

That way, I could create a way to "TiVo" favorite radio shows on my home PC during the day, and get them on my Rio the next day...
