I accidentally deleteted the .bmp file of a custom logo I was working on. The only copy I have is actually in my player. Is there any way to extract the logo from the player and put it back to windows? Thanks!

There is no way, using my software, to extract the logo from the player. There are ways to read the flash on the player, but I have not implemented them because I don't know how. Someday I would like to.

In the meantime, I might still be able to save your ass...

If you haven't uploaded any other logos to the player since uploading that one, there should be a file on the hard disk in the folder with the logo editor with the following file name:

~ele_up.~tm

This file is a backup of the last .BIN file that was sent to the player. Make a copy of this file, then rename the copy to "Rescued.bin", and use the File/Open command in Logo Editor to open it.

Did that solve your problem?

In the future, make sure to save early, save often. And save as a BIN file.

And if that doesn't work...

See if you can grab a screen shot of your desktop (or window) while viewing the empeg's output either through Bitt's VNC or using Mandiola's html controller. I haven't done a reboot with them to see how easy or if it's possible to grab the startup logo. If it's the car startup logo, then set Force DC in Hijack.

I'm reasonably sure that those remote control applications are only loaded after the kernel, so they won't be able to screen-grab the boot logos.

Crap, I forgot that they both rely on files stored on the empeg. Oops.

Well, there's always the possibility that Mark can throw a "View Boot Logo" option into Hijack.

Thanks. Glad I could help.

Now, aren't you glad I'm a sloppy programmer who doesn't clean up his temp files?

Rename the extension to .bak and include it as a "feature" in your change log.

Hi Tony.

I wanted to know if it could be possible to put logos to the player via Ethernet like Hijack ?

This is not currently in the logoeditor feature set and there are no plans to add it.

If Mark made a magical something in /proc equivalent to empeg_kernel, but corresponding to a different address range, it would be trivial to upload logos using ftp (and employing M$-supplied ftp client using command file from VB would also be a simple, if somewhat inelegant solution - in the case that a free ftp component/control can't be found).

Actually, I've been thinking about it, and the command-line FTP features of Windows do allow scripting and it wouldn't be THAT tough to add it to logoeditor in much the same way that it shells out to UPLOAD.EXE. In fact, if I played my cards right, I could probably make the two user interfaces look almost identical.

I would have to figure out the best way to detect whether Hijack was installed, first, though. I know it's do-able...

And if I did that, I could potentially do uploads of logo.raw and escher.raw... HMMM....

No promises for any new versions soon, but we'll see what we can do, eh?
