Hi ,

When using winamp to listen to the files on my Empeg the files cut short and don't complete playing.

Has anyone else had this problem??? If so is there a fix

Any help would be great

Cheers

Jamie

I'm not getting this problem. My files play through. When you say "cut short", be more specific. How far do they get and what exactly does WinAmp do when they get cut short?

Hi Tony,

It changes - It will play for 10 seconds somtimes 30 then it is like it reaches the end of the song and goes on to the next one.

Thanks for getting back to me

What version of HIjack are you running?

I had a similar problem with earlier HTTP streaming capable Hijack kernels whereby if you stopped a file from within (or Winamp got a error/crashed etc) then Hijack would only ever serve all subsequent files to this point and then stop, until it was rebooted.

The variable length between songs before they are cuyt off could be because of different bitrates in the mp3 files and whether the file has CBR or VBR recording in it (ie. Hijack stops at file offset X, but how long this is terms of elapsed play time will depend o nthe above factors and may differ for each song you play).

I would strongly suggest trying (a) a reboot of the Empeg - then see if the problem goes away and if so (b) try the latest Hijack kernel (and if its the latest hijack kernel you have, try a earlier one to see if the problem existed then as it may be a recent Hijack bug).

Are you sure it's hijack and not WinAmp? I can't say I know what would be causing it, but here's another test: If WinAmp is caching the song length, it could be the one closing the stream. Once you have a song that cuts short, load up WinAmp on another computer and see if it cuts short at the same spot.

I Have upgraded to version to the latest and the problem still occurs.

Goes away when I reboot then if a few users start streaming it comes back.

Well, hook up the empeg serial port and watch for error messages.

Me too.

Are you playing by clicking on "play" (correct), or by clicking on the song title (not correct)? I get chopped tunes when I do the latter.

Hi,

I am using the play link - others may be using the name link.

once this is done would it cause the normal streaming to also chop???

Cheers

Well, neither should chop, unless there's a bug in the client (web browser or mp3 player software).

I had the same problem happen the other day at work. I might have had 3 streaming connections plus the player running. Issuing a serial=q to quit the player fixed it right up.

The only possible thing is maybe the network layer ran out of memory.. the kftpd/khttpd pre-allocate what they need up front to avoid such problems, but the network stuff..

Anyway, if that's all it is, then this ought to fix it

[Startup]
ReserveCache=8

??

The guys at work have been listening to my tunes via WinAmp & Hijack since you got it working a few days ago and they haven't reported any cutting off of tunes or any other odd behaviour. However I'm pretty sure I've got

[Startup]
ReserveCache=8

in my config.ini already. Maybe that's why I haven't experienced any problems. Mine's also an Empeg MkII.
