I've ugraded to V11 code and when I put Hijack 200+ on, the restore visuals no longer works in the car. Sorry, I skipped several versions before putting v200 on so I don't know exactly where it quit working. It did work with empeg betav7 and hijack 184...

Yeah, that's what I did within an hour of trying beta11 -- downgraded to an earlier beta, and haven't gone back.

I'm still runing v175 of HiJack because Restore Visuals work in 2.0b11!!!

I know it's old but I like the Restore Visuals Function!

There's no difference whatsoever in the Restore Visuals code between v175 and later versions. I suspect you "think" it is working because in fact it *will* work sometimes, depending on the visual/info mode chosen in the player software.

I downgraded to b7 this weekend to test your theory, but to no avail. Not to make early assumptions, but it seems as if though the restore visuals hack could be broken in your code?

Tonight, I will completely wipe my hard drives and start off with a fresh empeg developer and various hijack versions to see where the "break" occurred.

For me, running b7 or b11 and the latest hijack, I see spurratic behaviour with the restore visuals hack. Sometimes it will attempt to restore visuals on track change, sometimes in the middle of a track, sometimes only when initiated by a remote button press, sometimes a few minutes after boot up, sometimes never.

I will let everyone know the results of my testing this evening.

I'll do some more tests but so far, Restore Visuals work just as they did before.

I had the same issue as it would start to restore "after" i pressed skip or sometimes not at ALL. But with version 175 it works as it did with 2.0b7.

Beta-11 definitely beyond all question breaks "restore visuals". It may work "by accident" in some cases, but it is indeed broken.

Now, the second question is whether or not the newer versions of Hijack are broken. I don't think so, but it may be possible. To help your investigation, here is some insight into how it works within Hijack.

Not that this ONLY applies to DC/CAR mode. Hijack never tries to restore visuals in AC/HOME mode, a fact that is probably confusing at least a few people, since that is normally done by the player but is also badly broken in beta-11.

Hijack looks at the flash savearea to see what info/visual mode was recorded as "active" before the last shutdown. It then changes that information to cause "Info Track" to be used instead (assuming mp3 player mode -- different handling for Tuner/Aux).

Hijack then waits until the "Info Track" information appears on the screen, by looking for the horizontal line under the Artist name line. Once that line appears, Hijack injects the required number of "INFO" button press/release codes to cause the old INFO mode to be restored.

This can break if the button press/release codes are grouped too tightly. Otherwise not.

On a possibly related note, I've been having trouble with the Source.L button lately.. let go too soon and the player powers up again. This is probably a Hijack bug, but I haven't looked too closely yet.

I know Toby did some work before Beta11 to change the way restore visuals works. In what way is it broken (i.e. works for me so far)?

Take a look at the numerous threads in Bug Reports that deal with this. Basically, the INFO mode is not being restored correctly in Home/Car modes. And this then impairs the ability of Hijack to "reenable" the active VISUAL in DC/Car Mode (which is what this thread is about).

The INFO bug has turned a lot of would-be-beta-users away from beta11, including me.
