Just thought I'd get some opinions on which color facemask I should start trying to track down for my player. I've got a 2002 Jetta. It seems to me red might be the best option, but if there is anyone out there who owns a recent model Jetta, I'd love to hear your opinion.

My vote for the standard blue...

I assume it has the same blue/red dash as an '01 Golf, in which case I've tried both red and blue:

The blue display is nicer, but isn't a great match for the dash. If you're installing it next to the stock radio, this may be unsatisfactory. I don't have another head unit, and it looks fine on its own in blue.

The red display is more orange than the dash red, but is a better match for the dash than the blue.

i disagree. The blue IMHO (bear in mind this is the non ar coated screen) was a perfect match in my mk IV GTI. The red is bmw red, which as stated is more orange and doesn't match at all.

I'd go with the blue. I have an '02 Jetta and it looks fantastic. Pretty well matches the blue on the Monsoon HU. I have some pictures of my install at http://www.geocities.com/dnr1985/index.html
Red might be good too, I just think blue looks best at night.

The a/r coating may make a difference, but the VW blue is definitely more purply whereas the Empeg blue is greeny. To my eyes, orange next to red is less offensive than greeny blue next to purply blue.

That said, I prefer the blue display overall so that's what I've got in my MkIV Golf.
