Hmm, encoding each adjustment into 3 bits just isn't going to do it justice anyway I try it. I lose either too much range or too much resolution in the saved values, which then makes saving them in the first place not very useful. The only way to really make 3 bits work is to do both - 1/2 the resolution and then limit the range, which is going to a pig to code.

I can save perfectly with 5 bits per slider - but that is a total of 20 bits (10 per power mode) which is probably too much flash usage.

Can we compromise on 4 bits per slider? (in which case I'll use spare8 instead of spare6.)

Mmm.. yeah, grab the spare8 and try it out. If you really whine a lot, I'll think about some more space there somewhere.

Cool. I was hoping you'd say that. Now for what I really want:

AM_volume_boost=nn
FM_volume_boost=nn
AUX_volume_boost=nn

They should all be very similar, with pretty much identical shared implementation. And if we don't provide all three, the wolves will howl and the barbarians will batter at the gates until we do provide all three!

Are you planning on having nn for the volume be positive values only?

In my case I'd want nn to be negative i.e reduce (compared to 'normal) the volume - not raise it.
[Mostly on FM stations though].

I know some folks have the boosting problem on AM i.e. it needs boosting. and the other problem on FM.

Or am I misunderstanding something here about the way this feature will work?

I think nn could easily be a signed int.

volume boost v1 appears to be ready for alpha - based on Hijack 244.

I don't have a tuner, or my aux inputs wired in my car, so I'm looking for an alpha tester to give some feedback on a kernel binary before I prepare a tidy patch for Mark.

Sure, as long as it comes in easy version (I've packed my unix boxen for moving house so I only have a windows PC left) ie prebuilt kernel as I have no compile tools on this one.

I think I'm on 245 at the moment, but I'll zap back for a bit if you want.
