When I start emplode and choose the player it hangs on the "rebuilding database" item with an error message of
Download failed while rebuilding database. An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host (error 0x80072746)
Meanwhile the player has "Building music databases..." showing on the screen, but just hangs there.

I haven't found any troubleshooting advice for this in the faq. Anyone experienced this problem...or is it a bug to be filed (after seeing what's going on by using the console I guess).

Thanks

This looks like the same error that was discussed in a thread titled "Emplode 2.0B3 sync error 0x80072746".
I didn't see a fix for getting the player back up and running though
This is the beta11 software btw.

Thanks for any suggestions

Should I delete the tags.cpp file?
And if so could someone point me at the correct place on this bb to find out how to do so?
Just got this player fairly recently.
Thank you!!

You have hardware problems: most likely either a loose IDE cable or loose jumpers on the drives.

Really?
The player works just fine when I'm not trying to do emplode synch (well, it takes a bit longer to startup...but I figured it all might be a related to the tags.cpp problem).
This sounds very similar to the synch problems that people described elsewhere....but I didn't see a definite "here's how to fix it" in those posts.

I checked to see if the cable/jumpers were loose. they appear to be fine. Or rather the cable appears to be fine...there's only a jumper on one HD as far as I can see.

Anyone else have ideas?

Thanks,

There should only be a jumper on the slave drive, so that's correct.
Maybe you've got the "badly crimped HD cable problem" that so many of us had. Just mail David at carsupport@empeg.com or carsupport@sonicblue.com and explain the problem to him. He'll send you a replacement cable free of charge.

I had the exact same problem....unfortunately, the only way I found to fix it was to reformat the hard drive.....
