hijack v253: no tuner?

I recently upgraded first my 40gb and then my 20gb player to Hijack v253.
Yesterday I went for the tuner and... no tuner? I figured perhaps the cable came loose. Went in the dash today, no such luck. Tried the other empeg, again, no dice. So, wtf, I tried flashing 2.0b11 stock back onto one. Tuner is available again. Swapping in the v253 unit, no tuner. The last version I had was v200, and that worked fine.
I can (and plan to) try v258, but... can anyone verify this result? If so, what was the last Hijack version you tried that worked? 200->253 doesn't narrow it down much.

I'm on v254; previously had v253 and the tuner worked perfectly. I'd say Hijack isn't your problem.
Do you have the low-battery icon when you start the player? If the voltage drops out too much, the tuner turns itself off. If it does this while the player is starting, then it doesn't get detected.

I test all Hijack releases in my home dock with Tuner. In fact, I often forget to test it in mp3 player mode..

Will have to check, I suppose it's possible it was just a fluke (especially given Mark's reply) that the unit I flashed 2.0b11 onto didn't work the one time, and the extra hard drive in the other unit is pulling just enough power that the tuner never initializes on that unit.

Either that or you applied the Mark1 version of the software or of Hijack.

Why would applying mark I of the software make the tuner work? Note that in the "it doesn't work with v253" case 253 was applied over 200 without reinstalling the empeg image, so it wasn't "already" wrong, either. Also, I let jEmplode upgrade Hijack, so I can't say authoritatively it did the right thing without looking at the code, but I can't imagine if such a bug existed I'd be the first to see it.
When I went to lunch, I looked, and yup, I got the low battery icon. I left the other (1 disk) unit at home, so I can't see if that's the difference now.
I need to do some recrimping in a bit anyhow (I disconnected some stuff trying to get the dimmer to work, but it appears both the headlight and interior dimmer lines in the Chrysler wiring harness are tied to ground and hence useless, and now I'm going to clean up the mess I left) and I'll experiment after that.

It wouldn't. It would make it fail unexpectedly after an upgrade or flash, completely consistent with your symptoms.

It worked after the flash. After the (previous hijack only) update, I did get the (tuner) failure.
I see I'm still not doing too good with the wording, the comment I made was intended to be read "it was a fluke that the unit I flashed fresh 2.0b11 onto had failed to find it's tuner on the previous boot and only started finding it again after the flash"

Indeed, the problem with the 20gb unit was a fluke, however, the 40gb unit swapped into the same sled doesn't see the tuner. Reproducibly, and with 2.0b11 stock.
Waaaaah. I wonder if the "both screws fell out of the sled connector and I had a hell of a time pulling the unit out" the first time I used it in the car caused this problem

In reply to:
You said it started happening with hijack, you didn't
mention that it also coincided with the docking connector failing catastrophically. Somehow this didn't seem to be relevant until now?
When it happened with both players, it had to be something common to both, right? Only one player had its connector faill out
I have to go do an amateur radio public safety net; I should take some tools with me and try to deal this afternoon, and hopefully, I can start using the tuner again.

Isn't the sled connector common, or do you have 2 sleds/tuners?

It was the connector on the (40gb) empeg which had come loose, not the one on the sled. I do have 2 sleds, but the other one isn't in it's new home yet.

In reply to:
Wires pulled out of the connector on the inside.
If only. All the wires are still firmly connected to the backside of the connector (inside the player). And yet, still no tuner.

The other end of the cable, the one I had to violate the warranty to get at, was unplugged.
Of course, after I did so, I read
this
Oh well.
