Well, my player turned up a week ago. Not having read up very carefully on what I was buying(!), I didn't realise a separate amplifier was required.

However, I'm changing car in December, so I'm going to hold off till then. Can anyone suggest any useful resources (www or UK magazines) to help choose an amplifier - or even suggest a particular model that has worked well for them. It needs to be something that can put out a bit of volume to be heard over wind noise with the roof open.

Many thanks for any advice,
Chimp

The majority of systems we've fitted (and we've fitted a fair few now) have used Kicker KIX-404s. There are cheaper options, but to match the Empeg itself in terms of quality they're a pretty good choice. They're also a pretty powerful amp, so should more than meet your need to overcome wind noise (assuming you've got decent speakers to match).

I'm actually off work most of this week, but if you mail sales@cambscaraudio.co.uk, one of my colleagues should be able to give you any further help or advice you might need.

I all ready have my system ready for my empeg when it gets here.
If your looking for a good amp for your car I'd try a rockford Fosgate Punch
series amp. But You need to decide If you want a 4 channel or 2.
I'm useing A Punch 400 for my front and rears which are eclipse 6 1/2's
componets. and two punch I think there 255's for my 4 12in Punch DVC Subs.
And so far from just my eclipse deck it sounds great.
And Now that I won the auction on ebay for the 6gig empeg some time next
week I can hear how that will sound.

But I think Your Best Advice would be to just go out and listen to some of
the different amps on the market. Most Dealers have them hooked to speakers
allready so just make sure the speakers the amps are pushing are close in quality to your own.

I won the auction at $1,525.
Its more than I wanted to pay but I feel it will be worth it.
