I searched the forums a little before posting this one.

Currently, I've a Mk2 with the stock blue lens. It reads well enough even on a sunny day; however, when I put on my sunglasses, with polarized lenses, the display becomes nearly completely unreadable. Any advice?

Funny, I've found just the opposite effect. Polarized sunglasses cut down on the overall glare and help me read the display.

Check out this part of RioCar.Org http://www.riocar.org/lens.php

It's a site Tony put togther to help give an idea what the different lenses look like, including in different lighting conditions. Unfortunatly no lens will give you a great solution, but one of the custom lenses from Darkstorm may help. Specificially either the clear or smoke.

Do you have an AR-coated lens or a non-AR coated one?

You could try DarkStorm's smoke lens, that's particularly good for readability.

Of course, click here and here.

Seeing as how I haven't done anything to alter the lens, you tell me! Again, all that I can say is that I find the unit, with the blue lens, difficult to read while wearing polarized sunglasses. Otherwise, the screen looks just fine in most lighting conditions.

Polarized sunglasses do all sorts of cool tricks. Just tilt your head at least 45 degrees and almost any electronic display will appear to go blank.

Are your sunglasses merely polarized, or also of the "Blue Blocker" type (sometimes called "Drivers" glasses)?
These often have a mild brown tint to them, and they do reduce the amount of blue light getting to your eyes...
My good lady recently commented that her new RioCar (with blue display, shortly to be changed to green) is hard to read through her H2Optix sunglasses.

I also find it more difficult to read my empeg display with my sunglasses on, especially with the blue lens fitted to the empeg. My sunglasses aren't polarized however, they have a brownish lens designed to cut out glare. Now since glare is mainly in the blue part of the spectrum, guess what they are going to do to my blue empeg display! Yes, by doing their job properly my sunglasses are going to make my pretty blue empeg display more difficult to read :-( Personally I prefer the blue lens, but have been using a green one for the last wee while and it does seem to be easier to read with my sunglasses on.

I have a pair of Revo polarized sunglasses, and have zero problems reading my DarkStorm smoke-lensed Empeg. I don't remember how it worked with the standard blue lens. (It wasn't long before I changed the lens, and I don't remember whether it was installed in the car by that point...)

Does the display become more readable at some point when tilting your head a good bit to the left or right? If not, polarization isn't involved.

My girlfriend had a similar problem - except her sunglasses had bright red lenses - it rendered the blue lens absolutely opaque for her! I didn't mind too much though, it stopped her from fiddling with my playlists

Actually, I have Revo glasses as well.

Perhaps I'll get a smoked lense now.
