And that totally sucks. Microsoft wants to force everyone to upgrade to XP, and so they don't offer licenses for 2000 on any new PCs any more.

Difference between XP home and XP pro are here:

So Tony, you're a Win2K person? Can you tell me where I might pick up a cheap copy? Can you also tell me why you can get and WP upgrade for real cheap, while just the sheer liscense for 2000 is over $150? I'd like to...uh...correct my legal situation, and I want to keep Win2K, but it's so damned expensive!

I run Windows 2000 at work only because they pay for my license. At home I'm still on 98.

Next time you need to buy a hard drive, CPU, or memory get it OEM packaged from NewEgg for $141. Since it's OEM packaged, you must buy it with hardware.

Thanks! I was looking at stuff from newegg, and that might make me order from them... hmmm.

question: the current version I "have" requires that I'm in windows to run the setup. would this be the same? will I have to install 98 if I want to install 2000?

Most OEM versions are full installs. You would not install this over an existing Windows install. It is meant to be fresh.

Going by that list, the home edition isn't even suitable for home users.
