I am looking into getting a Empeg unit, I would like to get one with a Tuner and nice amount of storage.

I would like to do this barter style, I am willing to supply someone with Gigabit Netgear Products. I have up to 4 Gigabit Server cards and a 4 port Gigabit Switch and a 16 port 10/100 with 2 Gigabit ports in it. These products are very pricey if you havent seen them before. The Cards retail for 600 a pop and each switch is $1800.

So if you looking to get rid of a Empeg and you are looking to get the fastest network made over copper lets talk ;-)

Thanks hope someone is interested.

FWIW, I'm not a contender for this trade but you might need to speak with Netgear's R&D dept. about offering TeraBit networking products if a tuner is an essential part of the deal

Tuners are, unfortunately, "as rare as....".

Only 2 Gigabit ports for an Empeg?

you would need at least 24

I think the benefit of the doubt should prevail here. Then again this is coming from the guy who just sent someone to jail LOL

Greetings!

This sounds rather ominous. Either Cambridge needs a new wireless LAN very badly, or...

My next laptop will have a gigabit copper port built in, so I am considering moving a part of my network over to it. At least a card in my server, and possibly my gaming desktop.

Honestly, the network cards have come down in price quite a bit. I have seen ones as low as $45 now, and so a decent card isn't as hard to swallow as it used to be. The switches on the other hand...

Well these are not desktop cards, they are awesome server NICs. The desktop ones eat up CPU like candy ;-)

I assumed as much on the server quality cards.

Anyone know where information is on CPU usage on some of the lower priced cards? For me, it could be an issue considering my server at home is typicially the slowest CPU in the house. Right now it's a Celeron 300 (@ 300, rather have the stability on a box I never see directly then a small speed boost).

And I'm curious how well the gigabit NIC devices on Macs work.
