I love the new "tweak order" functions in beta 11, and I love the ability to shuffle and unshuffle on-the-fly. I don't love the fact that it sometimes pauses the playback of the current song to get those jobs done. I know we were warned that it would happen on long playlists, but this is a wish list, right?

Example: Yesterday I took a long drive with my family. I was shuffling the contents of the whole player. I had the "now and next" screen up and I was using the new "swap next" key to make sure that nothing wife-disturbing came up. Once, during a James Taylor song, I looked down and noticed that a Nine Inch Nails tune was next on the list. Obviously that wouldn't please mommy, so I hit the "8" key to swap in another song. The James Taylor song hiccuped while it did that. My wife said "why did you do that?", and then got mad at me when I tried to explain the technical details.

Anyway, is there a way to multithread those functions a bit more aggressively so that they don't interrupt the playback of the current song?

The cost of gas for my Nova (which gets about 8 MPG on 93 octane with a bottle of 120 octane boost added) would be a little excessive in the commute to England. Anyway, I am just a lowly tech and know very little about programming. Any computer tech jobs over there? I am in need of a job :)

I've got a Chevy small block 350 V8 engine rated at 350 HP. It would probably do a little better on the gas if I didn't spend so much time launching it at the stop lights but then it wouldn't be quite so much fun. Once it gets on the drag strip in a few weeks it will get about 2 to 3 MPG. But that is why they put a gas station right across the road, you need it. Well I didn't have it built for fuel economy.

Nah, I never got my pilot's license or even make it to my first solo flight. I just watch from the ground or go up with friends, so I guess I won't get any proposals now :) I'll just do my flying in the Nova. I haven't quite got the hang of launching the car and bringing the front end off of the ground yet but I am working on it! I have to learn to do the burnouts correctly too but I want to get a set of used tires to burn up first.

Laura, liking to fly certainly qualifies you for a marriage proposal in my book (I don't fly either. Very expensive on these shores and my blood pressure is too high even for equivalent of third class medical )

Drag strip racing, though, goes (together with that odd blend of wrestling and clowning and such) among American pastimes I could never understand... Perhaps I should try both. With my 6'3" and much more pounds than I care to measure I could qualify for the later (another )

You can get your medical having high blood pressure as long as you are on medications that are FAA approved (at least in the states) and a recent EKG. I know because I have it and it took me many months of fighting the FAA to finally get my medical back after being revoked. But I did have to sign a form saying that if I felt bad I would not fly that day. As for the proposal, at the moment I am quite happy with someone who happens to be building a RV4 kit plane and restoring a damaged bi-plane so maybe I will end up going for my license again someday. And it helps that he can help me with the Nova repairs, I learned how to replace the heater core this weekend, torque the headers and align the bumpers. :)

Regretably, my blood presure is too high and unstable even under medication (you know, the standard cocktail: beta-blockers, diuretics and those enzyme inhibitors, I forgot which). And if they do manage to bring it low enough to satisfy the rules, I feel very drowsy. So, the planes are to me something like porn: I can only watch :) (I once managed to fly a 250 miles hop in a jump seat in Airbus A320 cockpit. Wow, what a videogame! :)

Lucky guy! BTW, is RV4 that small metal taildragger that reminds somewhat of Extra-300? Wow, it will be even better pocket rocket than your Nova!

I'm not sure what an Extra-300 looks like but a RV4 is a tandem 2 seater and yeah they go pretty fast. Don't give up, maybe they will find a medication(s) that will be right for you, it took many tries for me to feel just right.

Extra-300 is (I think German) aerobatic airplane in which most of the current champions (including Patty Wagstaff) compete.

Just wanted to post a follow-up here and say that I was just stress-testing the "tweak order" functions in Release Candidate 1, and none of them seemed to induce any pauses. Bravo!

(Okay, as long as I don't hit "swap next" multiple times while the hard disk indicator is lit up, then it doesn't pause. If I hit it a bunch of times right after a track switch and the hard disk indicator is up, it hiccups just a tiny bit. But for normal usage, I think the hiccups are pretty much gone on the tweak-order functions.)

Activating shuffle still induces a very short pause, but de-activating it seems to be great. This is understandable since it's going to a lot of trouble at shuffle time.
