A little update on that. I emailed Applecare a photo of the bulge, and they called me back in about 30 seconds. They offered to replace it, refund it or give a gesture of goodwill. The bulge didn't bother me so much, it looks worse in the photo than in real life. We are talking about < 1mm. I took the gesture of goodwill, and a nice big fat amount has gone back to my card.
Rock on.
As for the marks on the power adapter, they were tiny and rubbed off. Then I stepped on the cable a few minutes later and put some marks on it of my own. Meh.
