Ok, I uploaded a couple of albums to my player a couple of days ago using V3.0 alpha7 and Emplode 2.0 final. It worked out just fine. So come last night I go to add some more songs to the player again. Well, this time the player took forever to rebuild the database. So I thought that the software had frozen and unplugged the player. When I plugged it back in to power it started to rebuild the databases on the player it self with the percentages running until it finally started. After that I went and tried to synch with Emplode and it started to check disk integrity for quite some time. After about 20 minutes I just unplugged the power again since I had to get some sleep and could not monitor it overnight. So here I am the next morning and when I plugged the player into my sled in the car as expected, it starts to rebuild databases again......Fast forward I am now at work and want to try and synch with Emplode 2.0 final here at the office....Question is, is this safe to do or do I have to use the same computer as I started with. The reason I ask is because a while back I thought I read something somewhere on the BBS about how you could not stop half way through a synch and change computers.

OK, I am hooked up in Hyperterminal and it seems that it won't accept my input. I get the EXT2-fs warning and when I try to follow the commands from the FAQ on how to rectify it I get this:

Hi there,
seems like you always entered 'unmount' instead of 'umount' ... !

Just do it like it's in the FAQ:

ro
umount /dev/hda4
umount /dev/hdc4
swapon /swapfile
fsck -fay /
fsck -fay /dev/hda4
fsck -fay /dev/hdc4
swapoff /swapfile
sync

...and you should always wait for the shell-prompt to reappear, before entering the next command.
Up there you entered rwm and didn't wait for the process to finish before entering the next commands...rwm always takes a while...

Cheers,
Ken

OK, I am seeing things this morning...(Lack of Coffee). So I entered as shown below and get this after I enter fsck -fay:

empeg:/empeg/bin# ro
empeg:/empeg/bin# umount /dev/hda4
empeg:/empeg/bin# umount /dev/hdc4
empeg:/empeg/bin# swapon /swapfile
Adding Swap: 16596k swap-space (priority -1)
empeg:/empeg/bin# fsck -fay /
Parallelizing fsck version 1.19 (13-Jul-2000)
e2fsck 1.19, 13-Jul-2000 for EXT2 FS 0.5b, 95/08/09
ext2fs_check_if_mount: No such file or directory while determining whether /dev/
hda5 is mounted.
Pass 1: Checking inodes, blocks, and sizes
Pass 2: Checking directory structure
Pass 3: Checking directory connectivity
Pass 4: Checking reference counts
Pass 5: Checking group summary information
/dev/hda5: 1512/4096 files (0.5% non-contiguous), 9996/16384 blocks
empeg:/empeg/bin# fsck -fay /dev/hda4
Parallelizing fsck version 1.19 (13-Jul-2000)
e2fsck 1.19, 13-Jul-2000 for EXT2 FS 0.5b, 95/08/09
ext2fs_check_if_mount: No such file or directory while determining whether /dev/
hda4 is mounted.
Pass 1: Checking inodes, blocks, and sizes

As of now after about five minutes there is still no shell prompt after the last line I entered. Is this the way it is supposed to be?

Yes. It is now doing the music partition on the first hard drive. Depending on the hard drive capacity and how much music you have on it, it can range from a few minutes to almost an hour (for really full 80GB drives).
