ok I got the SMC 2652w access point. Oronico is the only one that offers this http://www.wavelan.com/template.html?section=m57&page=125&envelope=93 . My thing is will this work with my smc? I have mixed opions on this. Also how do I wire a relay to turn on when I request access to my empeg in car?

Not too sure about the details of your application -

I'm guessing you want to use the relay to control power to the access point? If this is the case, what are you planning on using to trigger the relay?

Looking at the datasheets for the SMC, it SHOULD work. The products should be compatible with each other as both are 802.11b compliant. Unforntunately, there probably isn't going to be a surefire way to know, short of actually trying it. Some Wireless products work with others, some don't. SMC and Lucent have worked together in the past here, but that is in the reverse situation (smc card, Lucent AP).

As far as accessing it, you would have to configure the EMPEG not to power down completely (I think based on previous posts, that you can still access the unit over the ethernet with it in standby mode), and make sure that your wireless-->ethernet converter is getting 5v always (or switched if you are paranoid about draining your battery).

To further clarify, you are going to have to manually switch the wireless ethernet on and off with a powerswitch of some sort, or leave it hardwired always on.

Either way should be simple. The biggest problem I see here is a stepdown from ~12V to 5V cleanly. And that isn't that hard of a problem.

Just asking, because how the relays are wired will depend on the specifics of the application.

check this out! This is a special remote control (Telestart T 70) for the independent vehicle heater. I didn't found a English Website. But anyway, maybe I can give you some ideas. http://www.standheizung.ch. I have the same problem and will solve it with this device.
