Back in 1999 you couldn't go to a club without hearing the Funkstar De Luxe take on Bob Marley's Sun is Shining. There were a number of remixes and I have a few of them on two Funkstar releases.

But for the life of me, I still can't find one particular one I remember hearing.

Can anyone identify where the guitar bit at the beginning comes from (other song)?

I remember a mix playing here in the Toronto area where the rif was much more prominent than the mix I just linked above. I've already checked the ATB Club Mix and it's not the one I'm looking for either.

My guess is this sample isn't from another song at all. It's the sample ATB used in almost all his remixes he did at the time. His basslines and this sample were just about his 'trademark' then.

Just check out some of his other 'own' stuff ('like 9PM - Till I come', 'Don't stop' or 'The Summer') and I'm sure you'll recognise the sample. It's not the same melody, but it's the same 'instrument'.

Thanks for the info. I'm still then looking for the elusive mix of Sun is Shining that features more of this melody.

Are you sure you aren't actually thinking of "9pm Till I Come"? That has quite a lot of that melody in (from 2:00 onwards in the 5:54 version I seem to have here).

I'm positive I'm not thinking of 9PM. At least not the cut from the ATB album.

The rif mentioned is the only part of that song I recognize. There has to be another mix out there that incorporates that melody in a more prominent fashion. It's possible it was a local mix, but considering I frequented quite a number of different bars and clubs, I'd be surprised they'd all have it if it wasn't commercially available.
