I don't have Linux and was wondering if there was someone that could put these wonderful hacks together for me for my Mark I with two drives using Kim Covil's setpowersource (mine can't tell if it's in the car or not), Mlord's Hijack v41 (47 doesn't work on mine) menu kernel & Frank's IR Trans patch all for the 2.03b Upgrade?
Is this even possible to put them all together?

I am not sure about the setpowersource, but the rest of it is definately combinable. I will try to build you one tomorrow with everything if someone does not beat me to it. Send me a private message if I forget.

Do you still want this? Sounds like mlord (aka Da Man) may have already taken care of you in another thread.

I don't know he still hasn't said anything about putting in the IR hack in for me yet.
I have a question though. With the IR hack can I set it up to use more than one remote because I have 2 others that the Empeg can see the codes on and I want to use all 3, that way I can use 1 at home, 1 for in the car & 1 for at work.
If not then I would need a hijack kernel for all three depending on which I want to use at the time.

I haven't tried building a mkI kernel... but I assume it is just a matter of taking the car1 .config and compiling... I can do that for you if someone can get me a patch for Frank's IR trans against v2.00b3...
As for using setpowersource... what do you want to use to test for being in-car...? The setpowersource code itself should work fine... I am not sure when to call it on a Mk1... I use the presence of a tuner for my Mk2... but I don't think this will work with a Mk1... I can make a kernel image for you that will always think it is in the car...? I am thinking of trying to tie it it some buttons being held down on boot, but haven't started looking at that yet...
If we can work out something to test for when your mk1 empeg is in the car I might be able to put together an upgrade file for you...
Cheers

OK, give this one a try. It is hijack v55 + irhack for MK1 2.0b3. I have not tested it since I don't have a MK1.

I am very interested in knowing exactly how you have customized your IR setup. What files did you modify, where did you place them (and how?) etc.. or is the built-in IR stuff in the IR hack all that you need (no external IR translation tables) ??
Just trying to understand how this stuff works (today).

Ok, It works but how do I set it up with a table to remap my other remotes. I tried the instructions on Franks site and when it went to reboot, in the serial output tells me when it gets to the init.empeg that bash says "No" and then the unit locks.
What am I doing wrong?

Umm, I haven't done the remap table in a long time since my remotes codes are in there as the defaults. What does your remap table look like? Show us that and the serial output and maybe someone will have an idea.

Hmmm, I am concerned about the lines that say...
empeg:/sbin# ro
mount: / is busy
Something is running from the drives and it did not properly mount them read only. This may mean that the files you added (ir init, and ir map file) never got written out to disk. Connect to the empeg again and make sure they are actually there. Also, post a full boot log (connect with terminal program and then plug in empeg power). IIRC frank's stuff prints out all of the remappings when the empeg boots.
You may want to just try adding the files again to see if you can get it to work without that error.

Frank would have to setup his stuff to read from that file. I don't know if he has any plans to do that.

OK, try this one. I rebuilt my kernel source to make sure all of the MK2 bits and other patches are out. All this one is is 2.0b3 MK1 with irhack. If you can get this to work than I will patch hijack in also and we can see if that works.
The reason the drives show up as hda and hdc is because the MK1 has two ide channels with the two drives as the masters on each channel. hdb would be the slave on the first channel.

Just before I disappear, I figured I might make that easier for someone (Frank?) to do.
Hijack v57 is now out, and includes a read of config.ini during boot-up. It doesn't actually do anything with the file other than read it, mostly cuz I haven't had time to do more than figure out the reading part. But if we can agree on a nice, compact, extensible format for specifying MULTIPLE sets of IR data in this file, then we can very simply have the Hijack menu extended to select among codesets.
Maybe someone will cobble it together while I'm away for the next 5 weeks.
Cheers

Ok. What is apparently happening is my Pioneer remote still isn't working except for a couple of buttons that happen to have the same code that you compiled into the kernel.
I rebuilt the player and captured the output for each stage.
Followed Franks instructions again but the time I also added his enabling of the verbose ir output on the serial port.
This is the capture just after the IR only kernel was installed....

The volume happens to be the same codes as my remote but the track buttons aren't.
Apparently it's not reading the ircodes file, maybe because there were already codes compiled in the kernel?
Any ideas?

Yeah, your init is not working, the map file is not getting cat'd to /dev/ir, or it is not getting recognized. Did you make sure that your modified init is actually on the player? Connect with terminal program and type
cat /sbin/init
and make sure it looks like what you posted above. Frank V, are you around? Does he have this setup correctly?

Before you go, did you know there's a bug in 52 that prevents the Fader controls from popping up?

Well, you push the knob to access the menus. The first push gets you the voladj setting, then you keep pushing it, eventually you get the fader setting... however, when the fader setting pops up, the voladj thing pops up on top of that (hijacked!)... You don't get the fader slider on the 'home" setting but only in the "car" setting. So the voladj push button hijack hack works fine at home, but in the car you lose the fader settings.

You don't get the fader slider on the 'home" setting but only in the "car" setting.
The reason this is happening is because you have applied his 2.0b3 kernel atop your 2.0b5 interim alpha-team build.
Mark is not on the alpha team and is therefore unaware that the behavior of the sound options is changing (fader is removed from home mode cycle).
This is a nice heads-up for Mark for when the next public release of the 2.0 code happens, though. I hope somebody's ready to tweak his kernel as new betas are released while he's away this month.

Actually, I just played with it now (v200b3) and it's broken there, too. Hijack doesn't really care about the lack of a fader pop-up, it's just that it pops up so quickly the hijack code "misses it" (I know, that sounds funny..)
I'm working on it now..

Okay, the Fader pop-up now reappears in v61.
A side-effect of fixing it, is that the VolAdj now only appears once, at the start of the knob-press cycle.. repeated presses will cycle among the sound adjustments, but to see VolAdj again one must wait for the pop-ups to disappear before pressing the knob again.
Sounds way more complex than reality.

I'm not on the alpha team. Whew, thought I was going to have to go on the run from the Mob for a minute there.
