Almost no one drives a pickup or SUV over here. I have a medium sized car with a 2 litre motor and most of the guys I work with can't understand why I bought such a big car! One of the first things that surprised me when I got here was the almost total lack of pickups - if they use a vehicle for hauling stuff it is usually a van, and most of the vans are pretty small compared to what you are used to in the US. Part of the reason for the small (and small engined) cars is the price of fuel in Europe - over $1US per litre in most places. You also pay a vehicle tax every year that is based roughly on how bad for the environment your car is, so if you have a big car without a catalytic converter you will pay HEAPS. You can pick up a 6-7 year old 7 series BMW really cheap here in Germany 'cause no one wants to pay the fuel bill or taxes.
