Here in Croatia luxury SUVs are increasingly becomming a status symbol (mostly Jeep Grand Cherokees, some Mercedes MLs, an occasional Range Rover or Land Cruiser, and RAV4, Vitaras etc for kids and wives), replacing large Audis, BMWs and Mercs. Porches are still holding their ground (with some inroads from Japanese makers and Viper). Virtually nobody drives pickups for fun, and for actual pickup work people usually use vans or larger trucks.
Also of interest for Americans here might be that European minivans are actually largish cars without traditional hood or trunk (we call them monovolumes) rather than trucks with passanger interior. They can come in a range of sizes (eg. Ranault line: Twingo - Scenic - Espace). Mercedes A class would be an example of a small monovolume (and a larger one, actually two, are in works).
