Heh, I remember the Renault Twingo from when I was there 2 summers ago. That's definitely not what I'd call a minivan!

Well, as I said, we use the term 'monovolume' mostly to describe the overall shape of the car. But, you would be surprised at Twingo spaciousness. I am around 6'2" and almost 300 lbs and, when I adjust driver's seat to my taste (err, size), I can still sit on a rear seat behind it without my knees touching driver's seat back or my head touching the roof. I tell you, an amazing little car (I would like to have perhaps 30 to 50 HP more, though).

Actually, we do have something like American minivans. Mercedes V series (Vito) or VW Transporter come to mind; it is just that we perceive them as mostly commercial vehicles.

I guess there's probably nothing like my Honda Odyssey over there. My baby's got the cargo capacity of a Ford Excursion and a 200HP 3.5 liter V6 engine.

My copies of Car&Driver are in the basement, so I cannot easily check about Odyssey, but usual European minivan is something like Ford Galaxy (and we rarely use more than, say, 2.4 l to get 200 HP).
