Ladmo addict Registered: 04/09/2004 Posts: 524 Loc: Oklahoma	I'm running XP Pro (SP2) at home and have automatic updates turned off (I run them manually). Every stinking time I boot up the damn red security shield pops up on the taskbar and also gives me a balloon saying 'You might be at risk...'... Anyone know how to kill the damn shield (and still leave the auto update turned off?!?!?) Thanks

TigerJimmy old hand Registered: 15/02/2002 Posts: 1049	Even better, in my opinion, is to run "services.msc" from Start Menu -> Run. Find the security center and choose properties. Stop the service and change it to "Disabled". Now you've turned off all the ridiculous "functionality" rather than simply silenced the alerts.
