If you're like most people I know, the problem could be just a poorly located touchpad. Many computer makers centre them on the machine, rather than on the keyboard.
For a touch typist, it should be centred below the keyboard, such that the "B" key is about middle w.r.t. the touchpad. This eliminates most accidental "palm presses" and wayward thumbing.
After a rather bad experience with a Toshiba notebook one time, we now look specifically for correct placement and don't purchase machines that get it wrong.
