Can someone explain why there's not an option to have all focal planes in focus simultaneously in the final photograph?

Because that, to me, would be the real future market: Point, shoot, everything in frame is always in focus without needing to wait for the autofocus.

I agree that a true photographer would always want to have control over the focal depth, but the *market* for non-photographers, who just want their happy snaps completely in focus all the time, would be massive.
